Hi! We’re Brooke and Sharron, the mother-daughter team behind Hey Baby. This little business actually started about 30 years ago with Sharron opening up a children’s clothing shop in the Corbloc Building in downtown St. Catharines. Life eventually got in the way and the old Hey Baby closed down, but we’ve now resurrected the name and added an authentic handmade twist!
Today’s version of Hey Baby began about 6 years ago with the birth of Brooke’s second child… a girl. Queue all the pretty things! Brooke began to make headbands while Sharron was busy knitting away creating cozy toques for both kiddos. Our first market was a table set up on the front lawn of a neighbour to a large Thanksgiving festival. After a successful weekend, we decided to apply for a few more. Eventually we needed to offer more than just toques and headbands so we began to experiment with different clothing patterns and that’s when things took off.
Chapter three of Hey Baby’s story began in April of 2019 when we took the plunge and decided to open Niagara’s first handmade baby store. We have curated a beautiful and unique collection of goods from local artisans and North American small businesses just like ours. Our shelves are home to our original clothing line as well as some of your favourite small shop brands. With a focus on handmade and ethically made (in factories paying a living wage and fulfilling fair working conditions, benefits, etc), you can feel good about the items you purchase from us. On top of that, many of our brands pay it forward to charities local to their community.
Our building was the original Vineland General Store built at the turn of the 20th century. It features the original hardwood floors, bead board walls, copper ceilings, (though they’re now painted), store safe and checkout counter.
We’re surrounded by wine country and a short drive to some of your favourite Niagara businesses including Cherry Lane (right across the street!), The Watering Can, Bench Brewery and so. many. wineries.
To make your trip even more worthwhile, we share this building with The Local Life – a permanent handmade shop featuring beautiful work from Canadian artisans. This means you can shop for your little one and yourself…and your friends…and your house… and your pets…and your loved ones…all at the same time!
